Invisible Zip 40 cm Sand

Sand is a pale, warm beige — the tone unbleached cotton and linen carry. On natural fabrics you barely see this fastener. 40 cm is the length for shift dresses and anything that will not go over your head. The opening reaches past the hip while the seam still reads closed.

A fine coil, 3 mm wide, on a polyester tape. On stretch fabrics a narrow stay tape in the seam allowance pays off, so your edge will not stretch as you sew or ripple later. Measure the length on your finished pattern piece, not on paper: the stated length is tooth length, and the tape above it disappears into your seam allowance.

• Slipcovers, because the piece opens wide.
• Bolster covers, because the piece opens completely.

Sewing tips

• Ein spezieller Nähfuß für nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse ist praktisch Pflicht — er rollt die Spirale auf und führt die Naht direkt darunter.
• Der Verschluss wird eingenäht, BEVOR die Naht darunter geschlossen wird. Das ist umgekehrt zum normalen Reißverschluss.
• Vor dem Nähen die Spirale mit dem Bügeleisen auf niedriger Stufe flach ausrollen, dann kommt die Naht nah genug an die Zähne.
• Beide Seiten von oben nach unten nähen, nicht gegenläufig — sonst verzieht sich die eine Seite gegen die andere.
• Am unteren Ende so weit nähen, wie der Fuß kommt, dann den Rest der Naht mit normalem Fuß schließen und die letzten Zentimeter von Hand verriegeln.
• Bei dehnbaren Stoffen ein schmales Formband oder Vlieseline in die Nahtzugabe legen, damit die Kante gerade bleibt.
• Zum Waschen schließen und nicht direkt über den Schieber bügeln.
