Sand is a pale, warm beige — the tone unbleached cotton and linen carry. On natural fabrics you barely see this fastener. Its length is 20 cm. That is tooth length; the tape above it disappears into your seam allowance.
That continuous coil measures 3 mm. Unlike separate metal teeth it forms an even line and runs silently. Tack the edge before sewing and press the seam allowance flat, then your topstitching keeps an even distance. A slow pace helps more here than any amount of practice.

Sewing tips
- Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
- Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
- Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
- In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
- Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
- Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
- Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

How do I care for the finished piece?
Close the fastener before every wash. The tape then will not distort and the teeth cannot catch in other laundry. Never press directly over the slider.
Which needle should I use?
A universal needle in a suitable size. Never sew across the teeth themselves — on metal a needle breaks, on plastic it bends. Push the slider aside first.
Centred or concealed?
Set centred, both lines of topstitching show evenly; concealed, only one remains visible. Trousers usually take concealed, bags and cushions the centred version.
What do I do with the tape ends?
They run into the seam allowance and are caught there. Fold them slightly outwards at an angle, so they add no bulk at the corner and the slider reaches the top.
