Description

Black works on nearly any fabric without long comparison. This fastener disappears on dark cloth and draws a deliberate line on pale cloth. 22 cm suffices for a short back opening on a blouse, or for a zipped compartment in a bag. That opening stays discreet.

Coil 3 mm on a tape in 100 % polyester. Since only the slider shows on a finished piece, a roughly matching tone suffices when choosing colour. For maximum discretion, take the next darker shade — a fastener too pale stands out more than one too dark. Sew it in before closing the seam.

Sewing tips

Ein spezieller Nähfuß für nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse ist praktisch Pflicht — er rollt die Spirale auf und führt die Naht direkt darunter.
Der Verschluss wird eingenäht, BEVOR die Naht darunter geschlossen wird. Das ist umgekehrt zum normalen Reißverschluss.
Vor dem Nähen die Spirale mit dem Bügeleisen auf niedriger Stufe flach ausrollen, dann kommt die Naht nah genug an die Zähne.
Beide Seiten von oben nach unten nähen, nicht gegenläufig — sonst verzieht sich die eine Seite gegen die andere.
Am unteren Ende so weit nähen, wie der Fuß kommt, dann den Rest der Naht mit normalem Fuß schließen und die letzten Zentimeter von Hand verriegeln.
Bei dehnbaren Stoffen ein schmales Formband oder Vlieseline in die Nahtzugabe legen, damit die Kante gerade bleibt.
Zum Waschen schließen und nicht direkt über den Schieber bügeln.

How do I care for the finished piece?

Close the fastener before every wash, so the tape will not distort and the teeth cannot catch in other laundry. Never press directly over the slider.

How does it look tidy inside?

A facing or lining covers your seam allowances and the tape. If you have neither, finish those allowances with overlock or zigzag beforehand, or they fray beside the tape.

Is this manageable for beginners?

With the right foot yes; it looks harder than it is. Sew a practice run on two scraps and you will see at once how close the seam comes to the teeth, then work more calmly.

Which needle should I use?

A universal needle in a suitable size will do; on fine fabrics a Microtex. More important than the needle is not sewing across the coil — it is plastic, and a needle breaks easily there.
