Whenever ribbing should match almost anything, grey is the safe answer. This medium, neutral grey holds back, letting patterned jerseys or strong sweat fabrics shine instead of asking around attention itself. Containing 95 % cotton alongside 5 % elastane, the fine rib combines skin-friendliness together with recovery: necklines keep their shape even when pulled over a head daily. Beginners benefit twice, because small stitching irregularities show far less against neutral grey than against black or white.

Cut the strip crosswise to the selvedge, where the stretch runs, then fold it lengthwise along the crease. Rule of thumb: neckbands about two thirds to three quarters of the neckline, sleeve or hem bands slightly shorter than the circumference.

Sleeve and hem ribbing on a jumper usually takes only a short piece, while hoodies including hood facings or pockets need more. We cut from 0.2 metres upwards, so you can order exactly what your pattern calls for.
