This thread is meant for visible topstitching on jeans — heavier than ordinary sewing thread and deliberately conspicuous. A thread for the visible seam. If you want a discreet one, ordinary sewing thread serves you better. Before topstitching, a test piece on the same layers pays off. Note the number with your project, otherwise the tone is missed later.

Eine Jeansnadel der Stärke 90 bis 110 verwenden, sonst bricht sie an dicken Lagen.
Für die Ziernaht das Denim-Garn als Oberfaden, unten normales Nähgarn in passender Farbe.
Stichlänge auf drei bis dreieinhalb Millimeter stellen, das sieht an Jeans richtig aus.
An dicken Stellen langsam nähen und notfalls das Handrad drehen.
Fadenspannung etwas erhöhen, damit die Steppnaht straff liegt.

Frequently asked questions

Which needle do I need?

A jeans needle in size 90 to 110. It has a stronger point and a sturdier shaft so it does not snap on thick layers. A universal needle does not stand up to the load.

What stitch length is right?

A little longer than on a normal seam — three to three and a half millimetres look right on jeans. Short stitches make a heavy seam read crowded and restless.

Which colour suits blue denim?

Traditionally a gold or copper tone. The contrast turns your seam into a design element. For something calmer, take a tone near the fabric — losing the typical jeans look.

Why does the thread break on thick spots?

Because the needle meets more resistance there. Sew slower, turn the handwheel at the thickest points and fit a fresh jeans needle — that solves it in most cases.
