Midnight blue is almost black. Only in good light does it show itself as blue. For outlines on dark fabric it is the softer alternative to black.
500 metres go a long way, and the snap spool closes so that no thread end hangs out. The colour number is printed on the spool and stands in the article name — note it down with your project and you will find the same tone again when you reorder.
Set beside glossy polyester, Frosted Matt gives a design a calm area from which outlines lift. Many people use exactly that difference rather than having to choose between the two kinds of thread.
What Madeira Frosted Matt Nachtblau is suitable for
- Machine embroidery on wovens and jersey
- Filled areas without shine
- Appliqué work and outlines
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Is the thread lightfast?
That is what it is built for. Madeira dyes Frosted Matt by its own process for high lightfastness. Embroidery on cushions, bags or garden textiles keeps its tone longer than with ordinary embroidery thread.
Do I need stabiliser?
Almost always. Stabiliser holds the fabric steady in the hoop so a design does not distort. Tear-away suits wovens, cut-away suits stretch fabric, water-soluble suits terry and lace.
How do I hoop the fabric properly?
Taut as a drum skin, but without stretching it. Pull at the fabric and you get waves around your design once it comes out. On stretch fabric, an iron-on stabiliser at the back helps as well.
How should I store part-used spools?
Upright, dry and out of direct light. The snap spool closes, so no thread end hangs out to tangle with the spool next to it.
