Description

Mid grey sits exactly between light and dark, so it picks up nearly any fabric tone. If you cannot decide, this is rarely wrong. Tooth length comes to 50 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.

That continuous coil runs 5 mm. Against metal teeth it reads less conspicuous and follows curves more softly. Lay both halves level and tack them before the first seam. Let one side shift and your jacket stands apart at the hem; with the fastener closed, that shows at once.

What Separating Zip 50 cm Mid Grey is suitable for

Sewing tips

  • Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
  • Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
  • Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
  • Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
  • Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

A zip foot. It runs beside the teeth rather than over them, so your seam comes close enough and keeps an even distance.

Which needle do I need?

A universal needle in a suitable size; across several layers a denim needle. Never sew over the teeth themselves — a needle breaks or bends there.

Does a separating zip suit bags?

Rarely. A closed-end one serves better there, or your bag opens at the bottom. Separating only pays when two parts really should come apart.

Can I run it into a hood?

Yes, then the fastener runs up into the collar. Measure to the hood's edge in that case, not only to the neckline, or it comes out too short.
