Which needle do I need?
A metallic needle. Its larger eye rubs less against the wrapping, which otherwise abrades. With an ordinary embroidery needle the thread breaks far more often, especially on dense designs.
How do I set the tension?
Noticeably looser than for ordinary embroidery. Metallic thread barely stretches and reacts sensitively to pull. Set too tight, it breaks instead of settling into the stitch.
How durable is the embroidery?
Under normal use good. Metallic thread is not meant for garments stressed daily — for festive pieces, decoration and accents its durability is entirely sufficient.
Can I sew with it on a sewing machine?
For decorative seams yes, slowly and with loosened tension. For load-bearing seams it is unsuitable: the core holds, but the wrapping abrades along the seam over time.
