Description
A clear, mid blue with no green cast. Strong enough to stand out without turning as loud as royal blue. It measures 65 cm. Too long, and you shorten it from the top, setting a new stop there.
This coil measures 5 mm, the usual width for jackets and bags: sturdy enough for frequent opening while staying flexible. If the slider sticks later, fabric is usually caught between the teeth — ease it out rather than forcing it. A little candle wax on the teeth gets it running smoothly again.
What Separating Zip 65 cm Blue is suitable for
- Waistcoats, because it lies smoothly into the front edge.
- Cardigans, because a fastener replaces a button placket.
- Covers meant to come off entirely, because both halves separate.
Sewing tips
- Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
- Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
- Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
- Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
- Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
- Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
- Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

Frequently asked questions
Which length does a jacket need?
Measure the front edge on your finished pattern piece, hem to neckline, and deduct seam allowances. Err short: too long and it stands proud at the top, too short and your hem gapes.
Can I shorten it?
From the top yes: cut it, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.
Metal or plastic — which is better?
Plastic is lighter, more flexible and quieter; metal reads stronger and takes more strain. Sweat jackets do fine with plastic; for coats and workwear, metal serves better.
Does a separating zip suit bags?
Rarely. A closed-end one serves better there, or your bag opens at the bottom. Separating only pays when two parts really should come apart.
