Along this thread brown, camel, beige and cream alternate — the gradient appears as you stitch, with no colour change needed. The spool holds 200 m of glossy polyester, and the colour code reads 9926. Mettler calls this mixture Wheat Fields.
For area-filling designs a multi thread is the simplest way to gain depth — without a single colour change at the machine. Poly Sheen Multi is the multi-toned version of Mettler's embroidery thread: the same glossy polyester filament, only dyed in sections. Before your first design a test piece pays off, then you see the rhythm of the change.

Does this thread suit lettering?
For large letters yes, for fine lettering rather not. On small characters the colour changes mid-letter, and the wording then reads restless instead of lively.
How do I set the thread tension?
Looser for embroidery than for sewing. It is right when the reverse shows roughly one third top thread and two thirds bobbin thread, whichever tone happens to run.
What is the colour code for?
On a multi thread it matters more than usual: a sequence of tones is hard to put into words, but the code finds exactly this spool again, even years later.
Is the spool sold singly?
Yes, every spool is sold on its own. With a mixture that pays off especially, since one spool already brings several tones and no collection is needed.
