Smoke blue carries a clear grey cast, reading calmer than a clean sky blue. It is a shade you wear for years. At 65 cm of tooth length it fits wherever you need exactly that opening — measured on your finished pattern piece, not on paper.
Instead of a coil, separate 5 mm metal teeth sit along the tape here. That looks more robust and stands up to coarser fabrics. For bags a separating version is rarely right — the base would open otherwise. It only pays when two parts really should come apart.

Sewing tips
- Länge am fertigen Schnittteil messen, nicht am Schnittmuster — Nahtzugaben und Saum verändern die gebrauchte Länge.
- Reißverschlussfuß verwenden. Mit ihm kommt die Naht dicht an die Zähne, ohne dass der Fuß aufläuft.
- Vor dem Annähen beide Seiten gleich hoch ausrichten und heften. Verschiebt sich eine Hälfte, steht die Jacke am Saum auseinander.
- Bei dehnbaren Stoffen den Beleg mit Vlieseline verstärken, sonst wellt sich die Kante entlang des Bandes.
- Den Schieber vor der Quernaht öffnen und beiseiteschieben, damit die Nadel nicht auf Metall trifft.
- Metall- und Krampenverschlüsse nicht bügeln. Bei Spiralverschlüssen nur mit Tuch und niedriger Stufe.
- Beim Waschen den Verschluss schließen, dann verzieht sich das Band nicht und die Zähne haken sich nicht in anderer Wäsche fest.

Can I shorten it?
From the top yes: cut it, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.
Metal or plastic — which is better?
Plastic is lighter, more flexible and quieter; metal reads stronger and takes more strain. Sweat jackets do fine with plastic; for coats and workwear, metal serves better.
What is the box at the bottom for?
That box takes the pin and holds both halves together while the fastener is closed. It is the part that makes a separating jacket possible at all.
How should I store fasteners?
Flat and closed, ideally sorted by length. Stored folded, the tape keeps that crease, and you see it later along the sewn-in edge.
