Description

Felty turns into appliqué, labels and patches — cut, stitch, sew on, done. At 25 cm wide and 3 m on the roll there is material for several projects. The stated weight per square metre is 210 g/m².

It also suits craft work with children, since nothing frays and nothing needs finishing. Whatever is left of the roll can be used without loss — felt offcuts do not fray and store indefinitely. It ships singly, so you can restock exactly what you need. If you embroider regularly, keeping one of the common sizes in stock pays off.

Sewing tips

  • Der Filz franst nicht, die Kante braucht also keine Versäuberung.
  • Zum Besticken ein Stickvlies unterlegen, sonst zieht die Stichdichte den Filz zusammen.
  • Waschbar bei 30 °C — Applikationen halten damit auch an Kleidung, die regelmäßig gewaschen wird.
  • Mit einer scharfen Schere oder dem Rollschneider zuschneiden; stumpfe Klingen ziehen Fasern.
  • Für Aufnäher den Filz mit Aufbügelvlies hinterlegen, dann bleibt die Form auch nach dem Aufbügeln erhalten.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wash the felt?

Yes, at 30 °C. It keeps its shape and its colour. The real limit comes from the garment the appliqué sits on rather than from the felt.

May I iron the felt?

At moderate heat and with a pressing cloth between. Polyester takes no high temperature; direct heat flattens the surface and makes it shiny. A quick test on an offcut shows how much heat the felt takes.

Can I glue felt instead of sewing?

For decor yes, for clothing rather not. Glued joints lift at the edges in the wash. Combining both — glue and edge stitch — gives the most durable result.

What do I do with offcuts?

Keep them. Felt offcuts store indefinitely, do not fray and are plenty for letters, small shapes and badges — work that only needs strips anyway. A shoebox of felt offcuts is worth its weight in any workroom.
