Description

Polyester felt with the advantage craft felt lacks: Felty is washable and keeps both shape and colour. One roll of 3 m, 25 cm wide — you cut it to hoop size. Its weight per square metre is 210 g/m².

The cut edge does not fray — so it needs no finishing. Anyone selling or gifting patches works faster with felt than with woven fabric: no finishing, no pressing under, no seam allowance. If you embroider regularly, keeping one of the common sizes in stock pays off. Before the first design on a new fabric, a test piece with the same material pays off.

Sewing tips

  • Der Filz franst nicht, die Kante braucht also keine Versäuberung.
  • Zum Besticken ein Stickvlies unterlegen, sonst zieht die Stichdichte den Filz zusammen.
  • Waschbar bei 30 °C — Applikationen halten damit auch an Kleidung, die regelmäßig gewaschen wird.
  • Mit einer scharfen Schere oder dem Rollschneider zuschneiden; stumpfe Klingen ziehen Fasern.
  • Für Aufnäher den Filz mit Aufbügelvlies hinterlegen, dann bleibt die Form auch nach dem Aufbügeln erhalten.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wash the felt?

Yes, at 30 °C. It keeps its shape and its colour. The real limit comes from the garment the appliqué sits on rather than from the felt.

How do I make a patch from it?

Stitch the design, cut it out, back it with fusible stabiliser and press it on. An edge stitch makes it durable — especially where a piece rubs while worn.

May I iron the felt?

At moderate heat and with a pressing cloth between. Polyester takes no high temperature; direct heat flattens the surface and makes it shiny. A quick test on an offcut shows how much heat the felt takes.

Does it suit children?

Very well. Nothing frays, nothing needs finishing, and scissors are tool enough. For first sewing projects it is the simplest material choice. The result also looks tidy at the first attempt.
