Felty is the embroidery felt for anything meant to be small and precise — letters, badges, tags, patches. Width 25 cm, length 3 m: the size that suits the usual embroidery hoops. Its weight per square metre is 210 g/m².
For labels, patches and appliqué it is the simplest base: cut, stitch, sew on. Polyester makes the felt washable and colourfast — exactly what wool craft felt cannot deliver. It ships singly, so you can restock exactly what you need. If you embroider regularly, keeping one of the common sizes in stock pays off.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Does the cut edge fray?
No. Felt is not a weave but a needled surface — it has no grain and no warp that could unravel. That is why a cut edge needs no finishing.
What do I cut it with?
Sharp scissors or a rotary cutter. Blunt blades drag fibres out of the surface, and the edge then looks ragged even though felt cannot actually fray.
Does it suit children?
Very well. Nothing frays, nothing needs finishing, and scissors are tool enough. For first sewing projects it is the simplest material choice. The result also looks tidy at the first attempt.
Does an appliqué hold without stitching?
In the short term yes, permanently no. Washing and rubbing lift a glued edge. A narrow zigzag or straight stitch around it settles the matter for good.
