Sulky supplies Felty in over twenty colours, from muted naturals to neon. 3 m on the roll, 25 cm wide. For small hoops you cut it down accordingly. Its weight per square metre is 210 g/m².
For embroidery a stabiliser belongs underneath, otherwise stitch density draws the felt together. For appliqué on clothing the rule is: press or baste first, then stitch around. The seam holds what the adhesive only prepares. Before the first design on a new fabric, a test piece with the same material pays off. Store it dry, flat and without creases.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Can I embroider on it?
Yes, by machine as much as by hand. A stabiliser belongs under the felt, otherwise stitch density draws the surface together and the design ripples.
May I iron the felt?
At moderate heat and with a pressing cloth between. Polyester takes no high temperature; direct heat flattens the surface and makes it shiny. A quick test on an offcut shows how much heat the felt takes.
Can I glue felt instead of sewing?
For decor yes, for clothing rather not. Glued joints lift at the edges in the wash. Combining both — glue and edge stitch — gives the most durable result.
Does an appliqué hold without stitching?
In the short term yes, permanently no. Washing and rubbing lift a glued edge. A narrow zigzag or straight stitch around it settles the matter for good.
