Felty is Sulky's washable embroidery felt: stable in shape, dense and finished so the cut edge stays clean. The roll is 25 cm wide and 3 m long. Its weight per square metre is 210 g/m².

This felt takes machine embroidery and hand work alike — both work because it holds its shape. Anyone selling or gifting patches works faster with felt than with woven fabric: no finishing, no pressing under, no seam allowance. If you embroider regularly, keeping one of the common sizes in stock pays off. Before the first design on a new fabric, a test piece with the same material pays off.

Sewing tips

  • Der Filz franst nicht, die Kante braucht also keine Versäuberung.
  • Zum Besticken ein Stickvlies unterlegen, sonst zieht die Stichdichte den Filz zusammen.
  • Waschbar bei 30 °C — Applikationen halten damit auch an Kleidung, die regelmäßig gewaschen wird.
  • Mit einer scharfen Schere oder dem Rollschneider zuschneiden; stumpfe Klingen ziehen Fasern.
  • Für Aufnäher den Filz mit Aufbügelvlies hinterlegen, dann bleibt die Form auch nach dem Aufbügeln erhalten.

Frequently asked questions

Can I embroider on it?

Yes, by machine as much as by hand. A stabiliser belongs under the felt, otherwise stitch density draws the surface together and the design ripples.

Can I glue felt instead of sewing?

For decor yes, for clothing rather not. Glued joints lift at the edges in the wash. Combining both — glue and edge stitch — gives the most durable result.

How thick is the felt?

Dense enough to hold its shape and thin enough for a sewing machine to handle without effort. For appliqué on clothing that is exactly the right range.

How many colours are there?

Over twenty, from muted naturals to neon. Anyone making appliqué in series finds nearly every tone — and the colour number makes it reorderable. The number appears on the band and in the article name.
