Olive is the colour of forests, moss and dried leaves — one of few never looking out of place outdoors. As ribbing on children's jackets or sweat fabrics it makes clothing instantly wearable. The fabric measures approximately 100 cm across, yielding every edge of a jumper from one short strip. Its practical advantage shows on a playground: grass, soil and sand leave far fewer visible marks on olive than on light shades — garments still looking tidy until the next wash.

Cut the strip crosswise to the selvedge, where the stretch runs, then fold it lengthwise along the crease. Rule of thumb: neckbands about two thirds to three quarters of the neckline, sleeve or hem bands slightly shorter than the circumference.
