Description
A warm, strong orange. On a dark ground it glows; on a pale one it reads friendly rather than garish. Tooth length comes to 18 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.
At 3 mm the coil counts among the narrow versions: it draws little attention and sets neatly into a short seam. Never sew across the teeth themselves: on metal a needle breaks, on plastic it bends. Open the fastener before a crossing seam and push the slider aside.
What Closed-End Zip 18 cm Orange is suitable for
- Bags with a zipped compartment, because it stays closed at the bottom.
- Trousers and skirts, because only an opening should part there.
- Seat cushion covers, because the cover comes off for washing.
Sewing tips
- Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
- Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
- Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
- In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
- Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
- Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
- Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get the seam close to the teeth?
With a zip foot, a slow pace and a tacked edge. Press the allowance beforehand and it lies flat while you sew, so the seam keeps an even distance.
Does it work on jersey?
Yes, if you stabilise the edge. A strip of interfacing or a narrow stay tape in the seam allowance stops that edge stretching as you sew and rippling later.
Do I need two sliders?
Closed-end fasteners carry one, and that suffices — two sliders only make sense on long, separating fasteners, such as coats you want to open from the bottom.
How should I store fasteners?
Flat and closed, ideally sorted by length. Stored folded, the tape keeps that crease, and you see it later along the sewn-in edge.
