Separating Zip 45 cm Dark Blue
Item no. 12052
€2.50per piece
Unit price €5.56 / m · incl. VAT, plus shipping
A 45 cm separating zip in dark blue. Version Spirale, width 5 mm, available singly. The stated length is tooth length without the tape. Measure on your finished pattern piece.
A very dark blue that still reads as blue beside black. For denim and maritime pieces it is the established shade. It measures 45 cm. Too long, and you shorten it from the top, setting a new stop there.
This coil measures 5 mm, the usual width for jackets and bags: sturdy enough for frequent opening while staying flexible. On sweat and jersey, a strip of interfacing belongs in the front edge. Without reinforcement, knitted cloth stretches as you sew and the fastener pulls your finished jacket crooked.
What Separating Zip 45 cm Dark Blue is suitable for
Zipped hoodies, because the fastener can run up into the hood.
Waistcoats, because it lies smoothly into the front edge.
Cardigans, because a fastener replaces a button placket.
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
What does separating mean?
At the bottom sits a box with a pin instead of a fixed stop. Pull that pin out and both halves part completely — your piece opens like a jacket and comes right off.
Which presser foot should I use?
A zip foot. It runs beside the teeth rather than over them, so your seam comes close enough and keeps an even distance.
How do I care for the finished jacket?
Close the fastener before every wash. The tape then will not distort and the teeth cannot catch in other laundry. Never press directly over the slider.
Can I run it into a hood?
Yes, then the fastener runs up into the collar. Measure to the hood's edge in that case, not only to the neckline, or it comes out too short.
