Separating Zip 80 cm Dark Blue
Item no. 14498
€3.20per piece
Unit price €4.00 / m · incl. VAT, plus shipping
In dark blue at 80 cm: a separating zip, Spirale with 5 mm width, sold singly. The stated length is tooth length without the tape. Measure on your finished pattern piece.
A very dark blue that still reads as blue beside black. For denim and maritime pieces it is the established shade. Tooth length comes to 80 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.
5 mm of coil width — the standard size for outerwear. It takes strain without reading as heavy as a metal fastener. Too long, and you shorten it from the top: cut, fold the tape into your seam allowance, set a new stop with hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.
What Separating Zip 80 cm Dark Blue is suitable for
Zipped hoodies, because the fastener can run up into the hood.
Children's jackets, because the piece goes on and off easily.
Between-season jackets, because they open quickly.
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Can I shorten it?
From the top yes: cut it, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.
Does it work on sweat and jersey?
Yes, with strips of interfacing in the edge. Without reinforcement, knitted cloth stretches as you sew and the fastener pulls your finished jacket crooked.
How should I store fasteners?
Flat and closed, ideally sorted by length. Stored folded, the tape keeps that crease, and you see it later along the sewn-in edge.
How far should the topstitching sit?
About three to five millimetres beside the teeth. Too close and the slider brushes your seam; too far and the fabric throws a ripple over the tape.
