Description

A very dark blue that still reads as blue beside black. For denim and maritime pieces it is the established shade. It measures 16 cm. Too long, and you shorten it from the top, setting a new stop there.

At 3 mm the coil counts among the narrow versions: it draws little attention and sets neatly into a short seam. Inside, a facing or lining covers the tape. Without either, finish your seam allowances with overlock or zigzag beforehand — beside the tape, raw edges fray otherwise.

What Closed-End Zip 16 cm Dark Blue is suitable for

  • Bags with a zipped compartment, because it stays closed at the bottom.
  • Trousers and skirts, because only an opening should part there.
  • Cases and pouches, because the tape adds little bulk.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
  • Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
  • In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

Frequently asked questions

How does metal differ from coil?

Metal teeth sit separately on the tape; a coil runs continuously. Metal reads stronger and more visible, a coil stays lighter and more flexible — on thin fabrics the calmer choice.

Do I need two sliders?

Closed-end fasteners carry one, and that suffices — two sliders only make sense on long, separating fasteners, such as coats you want to open from the bottom.

How far should the topstitching sit?

About three to five millimetres beside the teeth. Too close and the slider brushes your seam; too far and the fabric throws a ripple over the tape.

What do I do with the tape ends?

They run into the seam allowance and are caught there. Fold them slightly outwards at an angle, so they add no bulk at the corner and the slider reaches the top.
