Separating Zip 40 cm Dark Blue
Item no. 10858
€2.40per piece
Unit price €6.00 / m · incl. VAT, plus shipping
In dark blue at 40 cm: a separating zip, Spirale with 5 mm width, sold singly. The stated length is tooth length without the tape. Measure on your finished pattern piece.
A very dark blue that still reads as blue beside black. For denim and maritime pieces it is the established shade. 40 cm long — pick your length by the pattern piece rather than the paper pattern, since seam allowances and hem change the measurement.
5 mm of coil width — the standard size for outerwear. It takes strain without reading as heavy as a metal fastener. Close the fastener before every wash. The tape then will not distort and the teeth cannot catch in other laundry. Never press directly over the slider.
What Separating Zip 40 cm Dark Blue is suitable for
Zipped hoodies, because the fastener can run up into the hood.
Cardigans, because a fastener replaces a button placket.
Between-season jackets, because they open quickly.
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Can I shorten it?
From the top yes: cut it, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot — that is where the box and pin sit.
Does it work on sweat and jersey?
Yes, with strips of interfacing in the edge. Without reinforcement, knitted cloth stretches as you sew and the fastener pulls your finished jacket crooked.
The slider sticks — what helps?
Usually fabric is caught between the teeth; ease it out rather than forcing it. If it still runs stiff, a little candle wax on the teeth helps.
What is the box at the bottom for?
That box takes the pin and holds both halves together while the fastener is closed. It is the part that makes a separating jacket possible at all.
