Description

A very dark blue that still reads as blue beside black. For denim and maritime pieces it is the established shade. Tooth length comes to 45 cm. Lay it against your piece before cutting and you will see at once whether the opening sits right.

A plastic coil of 3 mm. It weighs almost nothing and stays flexible enough not to intrude on blouses or dresses. The tape ends run into your seam allowance. Fold them slightly outwards at an angle, so they add no bulk at the corner and the slider runs right to the top.

What Closed-End Zip 45 cm Dark Blue is suitable for

  • Trousers and skirts, because only an opening should part there.
  • Wash bags, because this fastener sews in flat.
  • Dresses fastening at the side, because that seam stays calm.

Sewing tips

  • Die angegebene Länge ist die Zahnlänge, nicht die Bandlänge. Für den Schlitz im Schnittmuster zählt die Zahnlänge.
  • Reißverschlussfuß verwenden und die Naht knappkantig neben den Zähnen führen.
  • Zu lange Verschlüsse lassen sich kürzen: oben abschneiden, neuen Anschlag mit Handstichen setzen und das Band in die Nahtzugabe einschlagen.
  • In Taschen den Verschluss vor dem Zusammennähen der Seitennähte einsetzen, solange die Teile noch flach liegen.
  • Bei dünnen Stoffen ein Stück Vlieseline unterlegen, damit die Kante nicht ausreißt.
  • Metallausführungen nicht bügeln; die Spitzenvariante nur von links und mit Tuch.
  • Zum Waschen schließen. Offene Zähne verhaken sich in Maschenware und ziehen Fäden.

Yes — for trousers and skirts a closed-end zip is exactly right, since it should not open fully there. Just make sure the length matches the opening in your pattern.

How do I get the seam close to the teeth?

With a zip foot, a slow pace and a tacked edge. Press the allowance beforehand and it lies flat while you sew, so the seam keeps an even distance.

How do I care for the finished piece?

Close the fastener before every wash. The tape then will not distort and the teeth cannot catch in other laundry. Never press directly over the slider.

How should I store fasteners?

Flat and closed, ideally sorted by length. Stored folded, the tape keeps that crease, and you see it later along the sewn-in edge.
