Description

A very dark blue that still reads as blue beside black. For denim and maritime pieces it is the established shade. At 30 cm a dress opens at the side without its seam losing its line. On trousers and shorts this is the usual length too.

An invisible fastener Coil 3 mm, tape in 100 % polyester. It looks harder than it is: sew a practice run on two scraps and you will see how close the seam comes to the teeth, then work calmly. All that really matters is the order — fastener first, seam beneath it afterwards.

What Nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse Dunkelblau is suitable for

  • Dresses fastening at the side, because this opening suffices.
  • Trousers and shorts, because the seam needs no placket.
  • A-line skirts, because the opening reaches past the hip.

Sewing tips

  • Ein spezieller Nähfuß für nahtverdeckte Reißverschlüsse ist praktisch Pflicht — er rollt die Spirale auf und führt die Naht direkt darunter.
  • Der Verschluss wird eingenäht, BEVOR die Naht darunter geschlossen wird. Das ist umgekehrt zum normalen Reißverschluss.
  • Vor dem Nähen die Spirale mit dem Bügeleisen auf niedriger Stufe flach ausrollen, dann kommt die Naht nah genug an die Zähne.
  • Beide Seiten von oben nach unten nähen, nicht gegenläufig — sonst verzieht sich die eine Seite gegen die andere.
  • Am unteren Ende so weit nähen, wie der Fuß kommt, dann den Rest der Naht mit normalem Fuß schließen und die letzten Zentimeter von Hand verriegeln.
  • Bei dehnbaren Stoffen ein schmales Formband oder Vlieseline in die Nahtzugabe legen, damit die Kante gerade bleibt.
  • Zum Waschen schließen und nicht direkt über den Schieber bügeln.

Frequently asked questions

Can I shorten it?

From the top yes: cut it off, fold the tape into your seam allowance and set a new stop with a few hand stitches. From the bottom you cannot, that is where the fixed stop sits.

Does it work on jersey?

Yes, if you stabilise the edge. A narrow stay tape or a strip of interfacing in your seam allowance stops that edge stretching as you sew and rippling afterwards.

How does it look tidy inside?

A facing or lining covers your seam allowances and the tape. If you have neither, finish those allowances with overlock or zigzag beforehand, or they fray beside the tape.

What is it made of?

Its tape is 100 % polyester and the coil is plastic too. That makes it lighter and more flexible than a metal fastener — exactly what an invisible seam needs.
