Along this thread red, cherry red and orange alternate — the gradient appears as you stitch, with no colour change needed. The spool holds 200 m of embroidery thread at weight 40, and the colour code reads 1506. Like solid Polyneon this thread is chlorine- and boil-proof.
For area-filling designs multicolour is the simplest way to gain depth: what reads flat in a solid thread gains structure here by itself. Polyneon Multicolour is the multi-toned version of Madeira's embroidery thread: the same glossy polyester filament, only with a changing tone. Before your first design a test piece pays off, then you see the rhythm of the change.
What Madeira Polyneon Open Fire is suitable for
- area embroidery designs with a gradient
- flowers, leaves and ornaments
- quilting seams meant to look lively
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate bobbin thread?
Yes, a fine bobbin thread belongs in the case. With multicolour a neutral one works best, since the top colour keeps changing and no single tone matches throughout.
Do I need stabiliser?
Almost always. Stabiliser holds your fabric steady in the hoop so a design does not distort. On the dense areas multicolour tends to get, it matters especially.
Does multicolour shine like a solid thread?
Yes. It is the same polyester filament, only dyed differently. The shimmer arises in the material rather than the colour, so every section shines to the same degree.
How far does one spool go?
That depends on your design. For several medium areas it goes a long way. If you plan a very large design, two spools with the same number are the safer choice.
