This thread shows Hot Pink. On white fabric your seam stays restrained, on dark cloth it steps forward clearly. 8 m of cotton per skein, 6 strands side by side: you decide while stitching how many go into your needle. The skein is sold singly.
Stitch with all strands and you get a solid, almost raised surface; with two the line stays fine. Anchor stranded cotton is the classic hand embroidery thread: cotton, matt in sheen and soft enough that embroidery adds no bulk. Before washing the finished piece a colour test on a scrap pays off.

How do I divide the thread?
Pull the number of strands you want out of the skein one at a time, then lay them side by side again. Pull several at once and you get knots instead of strands — the commonest beginner's mistake.
How many strands do I stitch with?
That depends on your fabric. On coarse counted cloth people take three, on fine two, for solid areas all of them. A test stitch at the edge answers faster than any rule.
How do I keep the skeins?
With their band, dry and out of the light. Without the band the colour number cannot be identified later, and that is exactly what you need when restocking a chart you started.
Why does it shine less than machine thread?
Because it is cotton rather than polyester. That matt character is intended: hand embroidery should read calm rather than shine like a machine-stitched surface.
