Rose is no signal colour but a warm middle tone with character. One skein of 8 m. Its 6 strands lie loosely together and pull out one at a time. A blunt embroidery needle finds the holes rather than the threads on counted fabric.
Repairs on knitwear are possible with it too, as long as the tone matches. Anchor supplies stranded cotton in skeins. The cotton is mercerised, which gives it a light shimmer without losing its matt character. Part-used skeins are best kept in your box with their band. If you follow a chart, buying its tones together is the safer move.

Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
How do I take thread out of the skein?
Do not pull the skein apart; draw the end out gently. A skein is wound so the thread runs free from one side and tangles from the other.
How do I iron an embroidered piece?
Lay it face down on a soft cloth and iron from the reverse at moderate heat. The embroidery then keeps its relief rather than being flattened, which matters most with satin stitch.
Can I machine embroider with it?
No. Stranded cotton is too thick and too soft for an embroidery machine, and its strands would separate in the needle eye. Machines take fine polyester thread; stranded cotton stays reserved for hand work.
Why does it shine less than machine thread?
Because it is cotton rather than polyester. That matt character is intended: hand embroidery should read calm rather than shine like a machine-stitched surface.
