Purple sits between red and blue, so it reads neither warm nor cold. That makes the tone usable on many fabrics. Each skein measures 8 m and holds 6 separate strands you can divide as needed. The skein is sold singly.
Stranded cotton is meant for hand work: cross stitch, satin stitch, stem stitch — everything made without a machine. Anchor stranded cotton is the classic hand embroidery thread: cotton, matt in sheen and soft enough that embroidery adds no bulk. Before washing the finished piece a colour test on a scrap pays off.
What Anchor Sticktwist Lila is suitable for
- cross stitch on Aida and counted fabric
- monograms on linen and towels
- names on children's clothes
Sewing tips

Frequently asked questions
Which needle do I need?
For counted fabric a blunt embroidery needle: it finds the existing holes instead of splitting the weave. For smooth wovens take a sharp embroidery needle with a large eye.
How long should the thread in my needle be?
Roughly a forearm's length. Longer threads twist while stitching, fray at the needle and end up looking different at the finish than at the start.
How do I keep the skeins?
With their band, dry and out of the light. Without the band the colour number cannot be identified later, and that is exactly what you need when restocking a chart you started.
Why does it shine less than machine thread?
Because it is cotton rather than polyester. That matt character is intended: hand embroidery should read calm rather than shine like a machine-stitched surface.
