Description
Lemon Yellow belongs among the tones people notice. If you want your seam to become a design element, this is the place. One skein of 8 m. Its 6 strands lie loosely together and pull out one at a time. The skein is sold singly.
Stitch with all strands and you get a solid, almost raised surface; with two the line stays fine. Anchor stranded cotton is the classic hand embroidery thread: cotton, matt in sheen and soft enough that embroidery adds no bulk. Before washing the finished piece a colour test on a scrap pays off.

Sewing tips
- Den Strang nicht auseinanderziehen, sondern das Fadenende vorsichtig herausziehen.
- Zum Teilen die gewünschte Anzahl Fäden einzeln herausziehen und wieder zusammenlegen.
- Fadenlänge etwa 40 bis 50 Zentimeter — längere Fäden verdrehen sich und fransen.
- Eine Sticknadel mit stumpfer Spitze nimmt bei Zählstoffen die Löcher statt der Fäden.
- Vor dem Waschen des fertigen Stücks eine Farbprobe machen, besonders bei kräftigen Rottönen.

Frequently asked questions
How do I divide the thread?
Pull the number of strands you want out of the skein one at a time, then lay them side by side again. Pull several at once and you get knots instead of strands — the commonest beginner's mistake.
Which needle do I need?
For counted fabric a blunt embroidery needle: it finds the existing holes instead of splitting the weave. For smooth wovens take a sharp embroidery needle with a large eye.
How do I iron an embroidered piece?
Lay it face down on a soft cloth and iron from the reverse at moderate heat. The embroidery then keeps its relief rather than being flattened, which matters most with satin stitch.
Should I knot the thread?
Better not. Knots press through to the front and work loose over time. The usual method weaves the start under your first stitches and finishes the end the same way.
